Book to Basics #3 Flush by Carl Hiaasen

Don't judge a book by its cover, they say, nonetheless I sure am glad my judgment served me right. I chose to read Carl Hiaasen's bubbly book Flush all for the reason that the book cover reeled me in.

Flush is a delightful story about children, nature, and the crazy ideas that lie in between... or runs in the blood to put it frankly. When Noah's dad was incriminated for sinking down the Coral Queen, a "scum" gambling boat his father wanted to shut down for threats toward nature, the beach specifically, he was pushed down a responsibility of clearing his family's name, as well as the coastal waters from literal deep shit. With the help of crazy characters, his sister topping the list off, Noah ventured into the challenge of proving his dad's "crazy idea" right.

I was so amused by how the story evolved into such cartoon-like detail--not to mention the wit of its main characters was irresistable. Flush is the type of book you could give your kid (or someone young; or young at heart) to entice into starting the habit of reading. The bonus that comes with the package is it but timely call for environmental awareness.

To those who have read the book already, here's a peak on one of the book's favorite characters, the Loggerhead Sea Turtle.
