Taiwan Excellence in the Philippines

Hello Sunshine! Do you know about The Secret? It’s that uhm concept where you visualize things or events you want to achieve, and claim it, and allow the Universe to conspire and give you exactly what you’ve claimed? Well, I’ve long believed in that mindset. So a few days ago, I started visualizing travelling to Taiwan. I’ve always wanted to visit Taiwan. I think it’s a pretty cool destination.

But while the Universe haven’t completely conspired for my Taiwan trip just yet, I’d like to bask myself with different Taiwanese stuff available in the Philippines. See, with the power of globalization, people’s choices expand to a worldwide scale—and Filipinos are not excluded in the phenomenon. In fact, Taiwan, through its Bureau of Foreign Trade of Taiwan (BOFT) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), has organized and implemented a campaign to help Filipino consumers identify the best from the rest. This campaign is Taiwan Excellence.

Taiwan Excellence is a campaign that recognizes high-quality Taiwanese brands, guaranteeing their superior quality and value. To qualify for these awards, the products go through a rigorous screening process to ensure that they are of the highest standard and can proudly represent the unique and innovative culture of Taiwan. It started started as part of the Ministry of Economic Affair’s (MOEA) 5 year plan in the 1980’s to raise Taiwan’s international competitiveness by supporting its local brands; and is open to all Taiwan based brands under the different categories: consumer and business IT, fashion, arts and culture, sports, education, transportation, and others.

Taiwan Excellence in the Philippines

In 2014, the campaign was introduced to the Philippines for the first time to benefit Filipino consumers who purchase products from Taiwan. The campaign carried the theme “Excellent Lifestyle” not just to showcase the 56 excellent brands under Taiwan Excellence, but to also let Filipinos recognize how these products enable them to enjoy an excellent lifestyle. Some of the brands under the campaign include Acer, Asus, HTC, Tatung, and BenQ. Below are some examples of familiar winners that I saw on Taiwan Excellence website. I know this might sound dumb, but I had no idea that HTC is a Taiwanese brand. I get excited whenever I learn from where a household name brand is from because these things, I sometimes forget--the author is dead kind of philosophy.
Today, the Taiwan Excellence Award is helping Filipinos distinguish the best Taiwan-made products, encouraging consumers to make educated purchases. In addition, these innovative products help users simplify everyday tasks, whether for work or at home. Definitely, this campaign will allow Filipinos to enjoy their shopping experience and discover the best that Taiwan has to offer. I think this is really great because such an extensive awarding body that recognizes the best of bests from one country can help filter the noise caused by "too much" globalization.

Having too many choices can be difficult, and learning more about which brands or items garner awards can be very beneficial for consumers so they can invest their hard-earned money well. For Filipinos, I think Taiwan Excellence is also a cool resource to experience what Taiwan has to offer, through shopping!
