That Girl from the Ocean by Kumiko Mae

Like this post if you have a favorite book from our childhood!

Hello Sunshine! What was the first book you ever read? In my recollection, it was The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson. Not the Disney version, but the original one where Ariel dies.

I have this habit of asking people what their favorite book is. Usually, I do so with the intention to judge. To me, a person’s choice in literature weighs heavier than a person’s playlist. Surely, you’ve done it at least once in your life where you borrow someone’s iPod and judged the songs that they have in it: recently played, most played, 5-starred. For me, I judge by titles.

Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t a habit done in vain; rather, one that aims to bring together like souls. Normally, if I feel like I like a person (personality), I also try to get to know their favorite book and judge from there. It is like a confirmation signal. If I like you, and also like your taste in literature, then I definitely like you! Trivial? Quirky? For me, it’s just fun!

Another way of doing it is by asking a person I’m already sure I like, of his or her favorite book. Consider it admiration. If I like you (your mind), I would be more than willing to pick it sideways—that being said, I will read your favorite book. Doing so, I manage to expand my library with minimized risks (since the book recommendation came from someone I already like personally). Don't forget to connect with more book lovers through my private book club!
These are a few of my recent doodles.

So yeah, the first book that I probably read was The Little Mermaid. I can still remember the beautiful copy my mom got me and my sister (yes, we had twin books haha). The pages were glossy with watercolor paintings of the ocean, mermaids, and more. It even made me want to dip brushes and start a painting career too! But that didn’t fly as much as my love for books did.

Sadly, I don’t have the copy anymore. I’m guessing we gave it away to charity. I can’t really recall how I lost my precious book anymore. I know every time I remember it, I wish I can turn back time and care for my beloved books better. But I’ve moved on with high spirits that it’s never late to start caring for your collection; especially since I discovered Cover Up, a self-adhesive book cover that stylishly protects and preserves books in style.

If like me, you want to prevent regret and start caring for your favorite books, you should take a look at what Cover Up can do for you!
