LIFE: Simple Ways to Happiness

Hey everyone! I'm going to take a little break from all the break-up coping post and shed some light to whatever dark place I realized some of you are also going through. I think the magic about sharing oneself is in the way life (and the people whom you've intentionally and sometimes unintentionally shared yourself to reciprocates, and shares back. It's saddening for me to find out that some of you are also going through tough times right now and like I said in my Facebook gratitude status here, I wish I can, in my own way, help you get through as you help me stay strong.

Times have been tough for many people in recent years. The economic downturn, housing crisis, and high unemployment rate have left many people feeling helpless and full of anxiety and sadness. It only takes a quick glance of the news to see many crises all over the world. It can be quite easy to get stuck in a negative mindset and have feelings of hopelessness and depression.

However, there are many easy and simple ways to break out of the sadness rut and live happily. Sometimes even the tiniest change in your life can make a big difference. Here are some ideas to help get you started on the road to happiness:

Laugh Out Loud Research has shown that even anticipating a funny event releases "feel good" endorphins in the body and other stress reducing hormones. Watch a funny movie. Go to a comedy club. Learn to look at the lighter side of life. Let go and learn to laugh at yourself. I've been hearing a lot about The Avengers movie so that's surely going to be a must-see for me this summer.

Have a News Fast For one week go without reading the newspaper, watching the news, or scanning the headlines online. News media portrays a disproportionate amount a negative events because simply put, it is what sells. While it is great to be in tune with what is going on in the world, it is unhealthy to be completely saturated with negativity. Take a break from this misery and use the extra time to go for a walk or spend time with friends and family.

Pamper Yourself Give yourself a spa day. Take a nice soothing bath with aromatherapy oils. Give yourself or have your partner give you a massage. Get your hair done. Get a manicure. Paint your nails. Give your self-confidence a little nudge with a beauty treatment. If you are interested in pursuing a career in cosmetology, click here.

Find a Rocking Chair A quintessential image of relaxation is sitting on a rocking chair on a porch, sipping a cool beverage, leisurely wiling away the day. Research on elderly people has even shown that when they rocked away on a rocking chair for a prolonged period of time they became less upset and anxious and required less pain medication. While you're at it, don't forget to witness this year's Supermoon.

Volunteer Helping others is an excellent way of not getting so self-absorbed in your own situation, using your energy instead on bringing happiness to others and making the world a better place. Volunteer at a hospital. Facilitate activities for children at your local community recreation center. Helping others helps put your own problems in perspective, helps boost your morale, and provides social interaction.

Find Happiness on the Inside It's not the events in our life that determine our happiness. It is how we react to these events. Happiness is ultimately an inside game. Meditate. Do yoga. Read a self-help book. Break out of the habitual conditioning of reacting negatively to everything and find your inner Zen.

There are many professions for helping others to learn to live happily, such as a teacher or counselor. Find out more information for Choosing A Career.

  4. Were you able to see the super moon this weekend? (Your second to last photo, in Greece). It was too cloudy where I am. We will not see the moon like this again until 2029! I'm going to see if I can spot it tonight, it won't be as full or big though.....
