Today let me ask you... what are you afraid of? I think our fears tell a whole lot about the kinds of people that we are. What we fear speaks volumes about the things we are and are not willing to sacrifice for others, for ourselves and for the sake of circumstances. As for me, I'm afraid of so many things but I'd love to think that I'm the type of person who chooses courage over cowardice. I sometimes take a while to stand up from my seat and charge, but I'd love to think that I do march forward.

I'm saying all that because right now, I'm afraid.

I got this Asian Secrets soap few weeks back. I got it for two reasons: I have a crush on Solenn Heusaff haha and because I thought the packaging was cute.

I was also thrilled that it came in a sealed packaging once you open the box. I really prefer my products to be sealed upon purchase. I get a hint disappointed when I buy something and later on find out that the packaging for said product isn't given much thought or concern by the Company who makes it.

I also really liked the shape of the soap. It was cute and it made me recall the soap sculptures I used to do for art class when I was younger. What disappointed me the most about the soap is its very strong smell--and I mean strong. You know how something can be too fragrant it hurts the nose? It was like that. It was overwhelmingly fragrant which deeply bothered me. Upon usage, it also doesn't foam up much which I normally expect from a soap bar. I don't usually use hard soaps as I use body scrubs and liquid washes for showering, so when I use soap, I expect some suds. Sadly, Asian Secrets didn't have one. I can't tell much about its whitening capacity as I didn't use this as much as I had planned. I honestly can compare the fragrance and the feel of this soap on the body to be similar to a detergent bar (or perhaps it's just the soap). I'm very disappointed and although this is just a bar of soap, I really regretted buying it. :(

Upon reading the ingredients, I'm not surprised at all that "Fragrance" is among the top five ingredients used to make this soap. Normally, you would see fragrance to be at the end of the ingredients list, but since it's among the first few things that make Asian Secrets soap, it's no wonder it is overly fragrant. What bothers me next is the joke that says, those that over compensates with fragrance are trying to hide something foul. :(

I'm still on the look out for a whitening soap because, I kinda want to whiten because I want to get a lighter hair color come 2013. I'm not sure if I just chose the wrong variant for me, because some people have shared great experiences with Asian Secrets soap. I actually have tried their scrub and I liked those... do let me know what you think!

Any whitening soap recommendations?

I don't have a lot of blushes. I think it's my most neglected "makeup" item and I should really be considering investing more on blushes soon because lately, I have been recognizing le power of le blush on. I realized that a look is more put together with the perfect blush in place.

With that let me share with you a coral peach (bordering on orange) blush that beginners can very much appreciate. I emphasized that this blush is ideal for beginners because it's sweet, subtle and very easy to work with--but of course if you're a professional or veteran beauty enthusiast, why not choc nut?

My hair, believe it or not, is both my frustration and my trophy. It's my frustration because it's not as lovely as I would've hoped it to be. It's frizzy, brittle and dry--very temperamental I should say; however, it's also among my biggest beauty success because my hair truly had gone quite far compared to its original health years back when I wouldn't even care choose the right products for my hair type.

Although I'm no hair expert, I think having had crappy hair days since day one gives me a bit of a command on what's good and bad out there because when a product satisfies the crunches I need to make for my hair to be tamed, then I'm sure it can work for anyone. Consider me as the type who is eternally doomed to have bad hair days--when I do find a product that can give me good days, it's a priceless discovery.

Today, let's talk about relationships. I think one of the most amazing thing about being part of this growing world of different tastes, is our intensified search (or wait) for that one other person with whom our complexities would fit in. I know a lot of people would say, women, we got our wedding days mapped out since we wore our first pair of heels--considering that's true, I think it would be interesting to talk about the idea of being engaged.

If you have got oily skin that is prone to outbreaks of spots, chances are you’ve been battling to keep your skin under control for many years. You may think that you have tried every product and technique under the sun, but when it comes to spot-prone skin there are several beauty factors that often go overlooked. Although I also have moments of hopelessness, one should never give up on tending for the skin because with the right beauty regimen, you skin will eventually glow and radiate.

Natural remedies for oily skin
People with oily skin often experience oiliness on many other parts of the body than the face, such as the back, which can also be prone to outbreaks of spots. Using a natural cleanser can help make the skin less oily and help clear the spots. Lemon is a natural cleanser, egg whites make the skin tighter and grapes help to soften the skin and make it suppler. Put all three of these naturally cleansing ingredients together and it will do oily skin the world of good.

Simply mix the lemon, egg white and grapes, apply the paste to your problem areas, leave for approximately ten minutes and then wash off with warm water. The chances are that your skin will feel less oily, softer and more refreshed.

Stay away from petroleum
Some skin products contain petroleum, which can clog the pores and make the skin more susceptible to spots. Moreover, oily skincare products can also produce an unwanted shine on the area you have applied the lotion to. Petroleum-based lotions and creams for the face and body can worsen the problem of oily skin. Instead those with oily skin should use water-based or gel moisturizers that do not contain excessive amounts of oil or grease

Johnson’s Beauty UK products* are designed to cater for every skin type and have plenty of body, lotions, gels, moisturizers and toners that are specifically aimed at targeting oily skin and getting to the root of the problem.

Use a light conditioner
If you have oily hair, the chances are that you are practically fighting every day to try and keep that grease under control. Oily hair can easily contribute to oily skin and using greasy hair products can leave an oily residue on your skin, which effectively worsens the situation. ‘Lighter’ hair products, such as conditioner, will adequately moisturize your hair without making it too heavy or greasy and without adversely affecting your skin.

How about you? Any tips for caring for oily skin?

Although I'm in no effort to save all (gosh, I need to save some of my blogs there too), I still am overwhelmed by the quantity (not really quality haha) of memories I preserved through photos. I'm the type who gets excited over unheard of products. I love things that are quirky, unique and special in their own little ways. So imagine how giddy I was when I was given a bottle of Dish Washing Liquid! Uhm, yes, domestic mode here I come!

For those who don't know, I think I am allergic to wet chores. Even as a child, I absolutely dislike doing wet chores. You may ask me to turn the house upside down and sneak into the dusty little corners of a room (even if I'm allergic to dust) and I would do all that and more with so much heart you'd hire me; but, I hate wet chores. Number one in my hate list is cleaning the bathroom. I gag when I'm asked to. I know what they say about people and their bathrooms (something similar to people and their purses) but judge me all you want, I gag when cleaning the bathroom. Maybe it's the wet fallen hair that just.won't.come.off; or the idea of poking things that touched certain parts of a person; but the bottomline is I don't feel comfortable cleaning bathrooms. #idies

Next on my hate list is washing the dishes. For one, I'm always afraid to break something! When utensils make that high-pitching boi-ing sound, I get scared. I'm a very clumsy person and among many things, I wouldn't want to be the person who broke a certain piece of china--too much hassle and excess cleaning involved.

Besides that, I get itchy with most dish washing soaps. Be it a bar, a cream/wax or a liquid wash, I usually feel itchy soon after. Most chemical body cleansers alone have toxic chemical components--and if certain brands won't even bother use only safe ingredients for "personal care", how do you really expect them to bother make washing kitchen tools any safer?

Then came Droplets of Nature's naturally derived Dish Washing Liquid concentrate. Proudly a brand of eco and family oriented and safe products, Droplets of Nature is one of those uprising brands that dare challenge the chemical industry and exerts effort to serve products that puts consumer welfare among their priorities. Their dish washing liquid, which I'm happy to say did not sting or make my precious hands feel itchy or irritated after a few use, is made with potato and corn-derived surfactants that not only makes it safe for our beautiful hands to clean the dishes; but also, preserves the beauty of our kitchen ware. Remember that beautiful print on your beautiful plate? Remember how it faded into time? Well, you should know that you can avoid that! By using chemical cleansers, you overexpose kitchenware to harsh ingredients that also strips it off its aesthetic designs. Natural cleansers help prolong that beauty (of your hands and again, of your kitchenware!)

Since this dish washing liquid is also free from parabens, SLS and other harmful chemicals usually found in chemical dish washing liquids, it's easier to play #housewife and #princess at the same time. Droplets of Nature's dish washing liquid is also loaded with essential oils that nourishes the skin and makes it smell oh-so-good! Personally, I'm excited for the weekend where I'd be trying the same dish washing liquid to clean my makeup brushes! As you may have read in this post, I love preserving the beauty of my makeup tools too! Among many ways, I use dish washing liquid to remove stubborn makeup stains! Since the dish washing liquid is also a highly concentrated wash, I'm excited to try how economic it would be to use it for all sort of things--plates, brushes...

To know more, visit Droplets of Nature on Facebook. The dish washing liquid is only P156/500ml bottle (photo above), and P285/1L. You may also check out their website here.

Now that you know my "wet chores" problem, how about share with me what your household chore peeves are too!

Hi everyone. I know it's the second Sunday where I have no BrightBeauty story ready. Initially I wanted to hit myself for not meeting my expectations--but I have let go of that and have resigned myself to doing my best and letting life take its course.

Plus because it was my birthday yesterday (today in some parts of the world), and I wanted nothing else to do than just live in the moment.

PS. I had an amazing birthday. Thank you.

Wow, may I just point out that last weekend was amazing! It was a weekend of extremes. It involved a huge blow and a swept away moment--well played Universe, well played.

So this coming weekend, I figured I should be ready with a few things to make it a bit more interesting. With hopes of inspiring you weekend getaway bag, let me share with you how I'm planning to pack mine. The inspiration for this week is light and perfect.

1. Leyende Massage in a Bottle P350 - I am a sucker for body oils. For evenings that demands a little more sensuality, I love using massage oils after a shower. It relaxes me while also nourishes my skin. Massage after a tiresome weekend, why not?
2. Candi Colours Nail Polish Remover Wipes P65 -  this acetone-free nail polish remover is an expected kikay kit staple for me! I just don't like chipping nails so whenever the weather cracks things up, it's always nice to have a nail polish remover available at our disposal, right ladies?
3.  Bare Naturals Best Pout Forward P148 - nothing beats a tinted lip balm for a getaway beauty pick-me-upper. One of my trusted go-to lip butters come from Bare Naturals because they slide on my lips smoothly while delivering reasonable hints of cuteness.
4. Enchanted Perfume P399 - there's a certain extra oomph when you wear the perfect fragrance with a certain outfit. For a light and pure-carefree-perfect weekend, nothing beats an enchanting spritz so Le Posh Blvd.'s Enchanted fragrance seems like a perfect fit. (haha I forgot to put a number 4!)
5. Charm Dream Brow Duo Brush P300 - I am in love with this makeup tool. Ever since I received this from my dear MFEO (made for each other) friend Sophie, I couldn't stop raving about this tool with friends. Brows are my hugest frustration! I'm more frustrated with brows than hair and weight! Thank God this makes tending to them more bearable.

When I read Zafon's Shadow of the Wind last April, it didn't take me long to own another Zafon book after the other. Below is my current collection of his works. Yes, I now have them all thanks to Lucy fo Fully Booked's always reliable assistance. If you are trying to get hold of a copy of a certain author's work, tweet her!

Shadow of the Wind, being a story twisted by deep complications and moved by a list of unparallel lives, has a corresponding action-packed and mysteriously dark prequel in the form of Angel's Game.
The whole of Barcelona stretched out at my feet and I wanted to believe that, when I opened those windows, its streets would whisper stories to me, secrets I could capture on paper and narrate to whoever cared to listen.'
In an abandoned mansion at the heart of Barcelona, a young man, David Mart├în, makes his living by writing sensationalist novels under a pseudonym. The survivor of a troubled childhood, he has taken refuge in the world of books, and spends his nights spinning baroque tales about the city's underworld. But perhaps his dark imaginings are not as strange as they seem, for in a locked room deep within the house lie photographs and letters hinting at the mysterious death of the previous owner.
Like a slow poison, the history of the place seeps into his bones as he struggles with an impossible love. Close to despair, David receives a letter from a reclusive French editor, Andreas Corelli, who makes him the offer of a lifetime. He is to write a book unlike anything that has existed - a book with the power to change hearts and minds. In return, he will receive a fortune, perhaps more. But as David begins the work, he realises that there is a connection between this haunting book and the shadows that surround his home.
Set in the turbulent 1920s, THE ANGEL'S GAME takes us back to the gothic universe of the Cemetery of the Forgotten Books, the Sempere & Son bookshop, and the winding streets of Barcelona's old quarter, in a masterful tale about the magic of books and the darkest corners of the human soul.
