It was another busy day for me at work. I was drained, tired, hungry and excited to take a shower, make love with essential oils and relax. Finishing a novel wasn't in mind, but it happened--one of life's surprises took centerstage.

Everybody who knows me knows how much I love coffee. Queer, but I even once broke up with someone because of coffee. But before you jump into conclusions, judging me as this psychopathic coffee addict, don't. Please don't. I was just young, wild and crazy--though not much has changed if I may say.

Imperfect is beautiful.
If you're a coffee lover just as I am, you will understand how essential each sip of joe is. More than just a caffeine fix, coffee for some coffee lovers if I may speak for them, is a refuge from the things that hurt--a place of solitude and inspiration, for the bruised. If you're a book lover, finding these little magical details between pages of art and playful words is nothing but a dream come true.

The Espresso Effect is a novel guised as a coffee table book, filled with whimsical pictures of coffee art. It was easy to read especially for me because it had a blog-like format--actually it was pretty much a blog site printed on glossy paper only that it was embraced by passionate poems that hum wonderful notes into your head.

I was drinking tea when I read it, but the effect was just the same. I almost cried with one scene. I guess it's because I related with the protagonist's "experiences". It was wonderful.

The Espresso Effect is a little bit of everything I liked loved in my life: The Little Prince made an "appearance", my alma mater demanded a visit (I miss UP so much. I can't wait to feel the sun of your fields again.), The Universe called for verses that make sense of life's mystic.

Burn with passion cause a little insanity makes life's bitterness... sweet.
Let me share with you The Espresso Effect.

Win a copy of The Espresso Effect, instructions below.
I am a believer of the saying "Happiness shared is happiness doubled." so I bring to you the chance of taking home your very own copy of The Espresso Effect by Iris Orpi.

I decided to keep things simple. Just post the photo above on your wall and that's already your entry! Don't forget to inform me through a wall post on my page here.

Contest will close October 19. Winner will be chosen through Random.Org and will be announced on October 25. Good luck!

Clarity’s passion for beauty was embraced on last Saturday’s White Party at the 5th level, Shangri La Plaza Mall. Participants of Clarity’s Passion to make you smile came in together with their family and friends in white as they celebrated their success over other bloggers who posted the photo that makes them smile for the promo via Clarity Aesthetic Medical and Dental Center’s Facebook fanpage.

The grand prize winner chosen by Kumiko Mae together with Clarity doctors and dentists is Suyen Rivera- Lopez awarding her with Laser Teeth Whitening. “It’s my dad and brothers protecting me from the man of my dreams.” she explains as she tells the story behind the winning photo.

Smokers and coffee drinkers have now the chance to have whiter teeth. Dra. Michelle Meneses, Assistant Professor, UP College of Dentistry introduced Teeth Bleaching and how with a whiter set of teeth can boost confidence. She also discussed the importance of dental hygiene and regular visits to the dentist can help maintain a good set of teeth to flaunt.

Everyone’s a winner since gift certificates for oral prophylaxis, anti-aging facial and oxygen rejuvenating facial were given all throughout the night and everyone went home beaming with happiness. Together with that they captured their picture perfect smile in their photo booth.

I look at The Stranger by Albert Camus and I see a quiet book. It doesn't have a loud book cover, it doesn't demand attention from the shelves, rather it blends with various book spines but once opened, it sucks you in with its "quite there" sense of everything. It is like going through the mind of the intelligent. Things were in order, despite chaos.

In small captions are the author's credentials, "Winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature".
I started reading the book after having breakfast today, a Sunday. By the time I was called for lunch, I reached the end of the novel. It was a short and easy read but it doesn't fall short of sense and "meanings" for readers to ponder on. It is about a quaint individual, if you ask me. The protagonist of the story reminds me of people I've met and found to be most interesting... weird, but interesting nonetheless.

Below is a song which I find fitting for the novel. Comfort in Your Strangeness by Cynthia Alexander, a woman of musical grace and power, similar to what The Stranger possesses.

I really liked the novel because it was something that in a way "interfaced" with how the brain can be wired. Detachment, which is The Stranger's strange enough, strength, was best played and portrayed by the calmly constructed scenes--you would find it haunting how the novel starts, evolves and ends with death, without ever soliciting the gloomy weight of dying/having someone die.

I recommend this to people who find it difficult to express their emotions--and find nothing wrong with it. To those accused of being "heartless", you may want to take comfort with The Stranger's pages. I enjoyed this book because I found "comfort in its strangeness". I'm positive this book would be an exploratory book for people with "complicated" personalities. I suggest you gift this to that someone you just can't quite put your finger on.

The Stranger (Php 499) is available at Fully Booked. For inquiries, visit their website here.

28-pc brush set (natural hair)
Even if make-up brushes using synthetic hair are softer and more gentle to the skin, my heart is still leaning towards using natural hair-made make-up brushes because they last longer than synthetic brushes.

Dollface's 28-pc make-up brush set surely made the cut! When I opened my package, my heart jumped for joy. Most of the time, online stores disappoint because the photos are better than the actual items; but with Dollface's brush set, it was the other way around--such a pleasant surprise.

The red leather (not very sure if it's real or faux leather) case had such a smooth finish that against the deep black satin ribbon that is wrapped around it, it was just divine.

Paired with an array of eyeshadow colors, my artsy genes are off to a fiesta! I've tried the palette (but of course I was excited!) and to my surprise, the colors were strong and the shades, especially the shimmers, left a satiny finish unto my skin.

Lately, all I've been doing is "wondering". A side step from fable dreams, I wonder. I think of different things done differently, it's quite stressful, entertaining, inspiring, frustrating... it's a two-faced ordeal.

It all started with something small. The difference is whether it grew big or older.
Lately I've been questioning myself, my maturity and my ability to perform according to my standards, better if possible. I used to think like I'm this big thing that's just waiting to happen but now I am wondering, am I just a big thing? I sometimes feel really delayed. I understand that self-realization is a process that need not be rushed; however, my human nature calls upon my impatience. Besides, if this life is really just borrowed, then it is but mature to think that we all don't have the time to waste.

My shameful admission is that sometimes I blame my failure/failures to my "insufficient" beauty.
What is enough anyway? Is an undefinable "enough" a definite sign of greediness, or what? Without meaning to sound boastful or anything, but I've always felt confident. I've always known myself as a go-getter and to compare myself to a children's story, my life motto is basically The Little Train that Could; however, recently my frustration's been getting to me and I feel like I need to find not an outlet, but a source of more talent, or wit, or beauty, or spunk. I just don't feel enough and I think I won't stop feeling that way until I find myself something, something more special than the usual special things I know I have.

Lost in a world of arrows, I am.
I don't know. I've been spending a lot. I feel like this whole "wondering" thing is the culprit.

When one thinks of summer, it's almost always associated with a vacation. Unfortunately, a vacation is a luxury not everyone can enjoy. For those who are tied down to their desks, swamped with meetings and deadlines to meet, ZEN Health understands how summer can be an escape that hardly has room to happen. But don't lose hope! Think color, passion, and life! If you find it hard to chase the sun outside, bring it indoors. There's something about summer that is perfect for all you busy bees--flowers.

From Zen Health May-June 2010

Fresh fragrant blooms are great additions to your office desk because they add life and color to an otherwise dull and stressful professional work space. In fact, flowers are proven to boost creative thinking while also creating  great impression towards peers and even clients. As if that isn't enough reason to start shopping for the perfect little vase, flowers are also a great way to personalize your work area. If you remember how much you enjoyed scouring various home decor books and magazines when you designed your home, know that with flowers, you can do the same for your desk.

Flower Fling list

Just as colors reflect personality, the flowers you decide on decorating your space say something about yourself. The means are endless. But don't break sweat just yet. ZEN Health shares with you a list of perfect flower flings:

Don't you think this is such a pretty piece of art? Found through Google.

Sunflowers
Sunflowers are strong radiant flowers most famous for growing towards the sun, hence the name. These flowers perfectly symbolize people who exude dominance and creativity. If you are the type of person who has the talent to command the attention of a room, sunflowers should be your desk friend. These bright blooms are the perfect decoration for natural leaders whose outgoing personality can't be confined in a box. If you want to exude warmth and openness, sunflowers would best blend with your loving heart!

So shabby chic. All flower paintings to used on this post were found through Google.
Chrysanthemums
People who are embraced by a cloud of mystery are best symbolized by chrysanthemums. Chrysanthemums come in varied bright colors too but despite their loud color, chrysanthemums are flowers for the mysterious because of the many layers which when uncovered one by one just don't stop surprising the most guarded of people. Ironically, chrysanthemums are perfect for people who value honesty and clarity. Among many, chrysanthemums also symbolize love and fidelity. People who are focused and organized are also perfectly symbolized by chrysanthemums.

I think roses are simple in beauty yet grand in meaning. -K-
Roses
Roses convey the widest range of emotions, although it is most popularly used as an expression of love and companionship. Roses are perfect for people who are romantic and sensual. Roses, as they are considered as one of the most royal and spectacular of all flowers, are perfect for people who enjoy the classics and prefer sophistication over ingenuity. Likewise, roses are also great for people who love beauty. The aesthetic qualities of a rose, its delicate yet bold exterior and its sweet mild fragrance, perfectly symbolize a woman of the pedestal.

Lilies say "I dare you to love me". (Imagine Me and You)
Lilies
It is quite amusing how Lily, as a name, has a very gentle and youthful appeal, when on the contrary, lilies symbolize people with a headstrong personality. Lilies are majestic. Not only do lilies come with a strong soothing fragrance; lilies are also amongst the most dramatically stylized flowers designed by nature. There are even exotic families of lilies that come in more varied designs such as those that come wit thorns and some with spotted petals. Unsurprisingly, lilies best symbolize people who are particular with aesthetics and adventure. If you always put your best foot forward, and if you are a person who is greatly attached to what is beautiful, you share the same characteristics with this star-shaped flower.

I love this artwork so much! It's so Japanese!
Orchids
Orchids are exotic flowers that symbolize boundless opportunities. This is because the Orchid family is a big group of flower species which are believed to have a different personality per kind. Although orchids are generally associated with greediness and lust, orchids remain to be proud symbols of glorious femininity. Orchids are best associated with people who are strong, honest, intuitive, and romantic. If your peers refer to you as the person with an endless charming personality, orchids should be hanging by your wall. People who can effortlessly radiate and find positivity have orchids as their personality's flower representation.#

Tropical Philippines welcomes the newest line of extensive natural skin care products called Mineral Flowers. Mineral Flowers, which originated from Israel, proudly promotes the "Let's Flower the World" campaign which fields flowers as the natural way of return to Eden, the land of paradise.

In a private launch held at Cav, Bonifacio High Street, main players of the beauty scene had the first try of the new line of skincare that promises the self-repairing spirit of flowers and the rejuvenating strength of pure mineral water from the dead sea.

According to founder and chief gardener of Mineral Flowers, Uri Ben Hur, Mineral Flowers is almost entirely made up of natural ingredients, 99.65 percent, that helps clean, moisturize, balance and support the renewal of the skin--like how nature does with flowers. "If you look at flowers, you see that they're really beautiful. We took inspiration from that. Our goal is to make skin that radiates beauty just like how flowers manifest it," he said.

Compared to other blogs out there, my blog's really consistent and active. I always make it a point that I have a new post or a new racket to share. I read, research, keep my eyes open and brainstorm. See, writing is something I'm completely sure I would never be able to comfortably rid off my system. I love it. Hopefully the things I do or say don't lead to my demise, but if so, I just have to face that, right?

Speaking of face... what do you think of my basic "day-in-the-office" make-up?
As I was saying, my site's been really busy but I feel like I haven't written something personal for the longest time. To begin with, I haven't even blogged about my Sagada vacation last August: first, because I was too emotionally distraught; and second, because it was an experience I am a bit selfish about. My being busy at work and some projects affected the "kumi-ness" of my blogs as well, I'm sorry.

To compensate, let me share this:

Mushroom Double Cheeseburger Pizza, please tell me I'd someday get to try you.
I know this wouldn't help especially to those who live far from the areas the specialty pizza house serves, but I think it's still worth a try, to spend some few seconds, salivating at this little baby. Check out their website here.

I found their site because I experienced such heavenly feeling of happiness with the Double Cheeseburger I had for lunch--one of my office mates will celebrate her birthday tomorrow and treated the office to lunch, happy birthday Ms. Grace! Ah, I'm so curious...

Last night I Facebooked about my upcoming birth month. October's just around the corner, I don't know what to do for my birthday yet! Not that I actually celebrate my birthday, I just really want a turn-around. I want a turn-around to deserve more of these:

Some people, rebound. Some, the great ones, follow through. -kumiquote

From Zen Health May-
June 2010

Healthy skin starts with hydration. Regardless of the weather, it is important to always have your eight to ten glasses of water daily. The body is approximately 70 percent water. Thus maintaining proper hydration especially when the body expels water in the form of sweat when it’s hot and in the for of urine when it’s cold.

Staying hydrated is important because proper hydration gives the skin the chance to repair itself, naturally. Not only that, proper hydration is important in cleansing the body, so to avoid imperfection showing on the surface, keeping clean internally is the secret.

Being in the tropics, one of the most important things you always have to remember other than hydration is protection such as breathable clothing for the hot summer days and protective clothing for the humid rainy season. But for those who appreciate a certain habit, one good idea would be to start carrying an umbrella. No matter how old fashioned or inconvenient umbrellas seem, they are a great gear to always have with you—or the trunk of your car at least.

To add a unique punch on the typical umbrellas sold off the rack, the my+brolly umbrellas are offering unique limited edition hand-crafted umbrellas that perfectly suit different exciting personalities for different occasions.

For more details on the hand-crafted umbrellas, check out http://readyforrain.com or visit the following retail branches: Luna, Code Limited, Whipped Tree Couture, Accessorio, The Ramp at Crossings and Heima Store.#

I apologize for the not-so-wonderful screen shot of the article. I don't know why but I am hardly keen on keeping my published anything despite the complete destructive "FML" feeling I get when I realize I don't have a copy of my anything published anymore.
When I saw how folded and crumpled my take note only copy of Zen Health magazine May-June 2010 issue, I panicked. I looked for a back issue in stores like National Book Store and Book Sale, but to my demise, there was none.

I was left with no other choice than to scan the my take note only copy of the magazine. Until the time I find myself a better copy of the said issue (Hello! If you have a copy, please let me scan it at least!), I have no choice but to settle... meh!

Here's to protecting the skin and backing up files! If you wish to read more, please check out my Portfolio.

Shia LaBeouf plays the role of Jake Moore in Wall Street 2: Moner Never Sleeps

Jake Moore (Shia LaBeouf)  may be worth millions at a ludicrously young age but he is also keen to do some good in the world by investing in green energy amid a fascinating world intoxicated by the sheer thrill of as much money as possible.

In Oliver Stone’s “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,” LaBeouf’s Jake is a honest trader who gets embroiled in ominous financial dealings that is bound to spin dangerously out of control.  With Michael Douglas’ Award-wining role Gordon Gekko out of prison and Josh Brolin’s Breton James, “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” multiplies greed and avarice where there is no such thing as ‘enough.’

“Wall Street 2” steers Jake Moore (LaBeouf), a smart young proprietary trader into making millions at the venerable Keller Zabel Investments, run by Louis Zabel (Frank Langella), Jake’s mentor.  Jake’s girlfriend, Winnie (Carey Mulligan), meanwhile, is supportive of his drive – fueled by an idealism she finds lacking in her father Gordon – to invest in green energy.  A wave of rumors that Keller Zabel is stuck with billions in toxic debt causes the company’s stock price to suddenly nose-dive, and Louis Zabel is forced to fight for his company’s life.  When the government refuses a bail-out, Bretton James (Josh Brolin), a ruthless billionaire and master manipulator, arranges a takeover of Keller Zabel for a fraction of its worth. This move then propels Jake to avenge his losses by finally forging an unlikely alliance with Gordon.

To play the role of Jake, Oliver Stone cast Shia LaBeouf, star of the hugely successful “Transformers” films, as well as the recent “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” and the thriller “Disturbia.” “He reminds me of a young Tom Cruise [with whom Stone worked on “Born on the Fourth of July”],” says Stone of LaBeouf -- “The same drive, work ethic, and energy.”

LaBeouf said, "I love Wall Street -- I'm here because of it. As a movie fan, you learn a lot watching Oliver's movies. You get a lot of facts, as well as entertainment." The actor aso added, "I've been making fantasy films for a while. I wanted something with teeth, and Oliver Stone makes movies with teeth."

LaBeouf describes Jake as someone who comes from a modest background, and whose tenure as a caddie for Louis Zabel, the head of the esteemed investment bank Keller Zabel, would lead to much bigger things.  “Jake is a guy who came from nothing, in Long Island, with a father who’s non-existent,” the actor explains.  “Jake was hired right out of business school and put into Keller Zabel as a proprietary trader, and starts trading his own account.  He works his way up the ladder and becomes Zabel’s right-hand man at a young age.”
“When I took the movie I knew little of the world of finance – I didn’t know what a derivative was, I didn’t know stocks, bonds,” he continues.  “Oliver said, ‘If you want to do this you’d better get cracking [and do your homework],’ and I walked into a brokerage house office and asked them to set me up an account.”

LaBeouf then dove into his research with zeal.  After what amounted to an intensive course in finance at various investment and trading houses, LaBeouf made a modest investment grow exponentially. He also passed his Series 7 test, becoming a licensed broker-dealer.

“It is amazing. I come from poverty. My mother laughs about it all the time. She went on welfare; we had no money and now I’m trading upwards of $300,000 in the morning. It’s outrageous. It’s really outrageous.  My Mom’s happy as a clam,”  LaBeouf concludes on the current state of his career.

“Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” opens September 29 in theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.
