I think everybody's born doe-eyed. Innocence is an invisible skin that separates if not shelters the important part of ourselves from the dangerous elements of "what's out there". In the book Pages for You, what is realized is a harmony between protection and the prohibited. Sylvia Brownrigg's novel is a story of a love which blossomed between two flowers delicate for reasons of their own.

The book is like a riveting memory captured in complete detail. Imagine a freshly brewed coffee. Like it, the perfection, essence and desire built up by each turn of a page envelopes a room--is inescapable. It struck me, to begin with, but as I took it in, as the story warms my palm, my body relaxed to the boldness of its flavor. Pages for You is the kind of book you would finish in one sitting not solely because you can't put it down but also because it is a story that will enter your system and deceive your mind into thinking that there is more time, that you can still read one more page... one last page... seriously, last one.

Beginning with Flannery's fatal attraction towards a mysterious stranger, Pages for You evolves to a dream-like sequence similar to a flashback or a memory perfectly preserved through time. Flannery's fears and insecurities manifested through Brownrigg's words like an incandescent light in the dark. Likewise, her passion was a flame that lit up her entire unchartered woods. The way it chronicled each event, emotion and state of mind with meticulous detail made it possible for this page turner to reveal the awkward process by which the character unveiled layer by layer, her self, sexuality and feelings.

It is a silent exposure of what some would refer to as problem or phenomenon. Not a single dull moment, I should commend. The novel was graceful in revealing the lesbian tone it would strongly affirm scene after scene. Upon reading, it would be difficult to disagree that Pages for You is a by-product of curiosity and satisfaction. Like a module of signs to evaluate and options to consider, the novel uncovered a secret most familiar amongst any human being, love--exactly why I fell in love to its every page.

The novel reminded me very much of the film Loving Annabelle (2006)--a love story between a student and her teacher, both females. See trailer below.

I recommend Pages for You to readers armed with open-mindedness. This book would be difficult to enjoy much more understand if the reader has to battle each scene out with ideas of right and wrong. Youthful and eloquent. Pages for You is and easy-to-read journey of self-discovery.

Pages for You (Php 559) is available at Fully Booked. For inquiries, visit their website here.

This Tuesy Tuesday post is dedicated to introducing to all of you my Book to Basics page. As you can see just below my header, I have placed a selection of links to classified pages. As follows, the Beautiful Things page is the homepage of my blog, basically containing the entire archive of my blog; the Book to Basics page is a page which will list down all links to book review posts; the Beauty & Wellness page is for anything related to my definition of what is beautiful and what contributes to a holistic wellness; the Talk to K page is my invitation to all of you, my beloved readers, to not fear and interact with yours truly; and the Portfolio page is for a brief compilation of links leading to my published articles and executed projects (although please be aware that this page does not tally all of my accomplishments, as I don't really want to make blogging a tedious task).

Whew, that's a lot of talking!

All of my friends know I love books, and I'm not particularly "tuesy" when it comes to what I read. This is why just like with music, I take advantage of my not being choosy with literature by making sure I cover as much variety of stories so I can suggest to friends and family, even acquaintances, "the perfect read".

Besides, also same with music, I have a habit of judging people based on what they read. Come to think of it, that reminds me of a special bookmark I purchased from Fullybooked which quoted "Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it." I think books say a lot about who we are. I'm sure my library says a lot about who I am and whether it's a good or a bad statement, as long as it is a bold one backed up by hefty dosages of inspiration and emotion combined, I really don't mind.

This September, I would finally be launching my Book Review section where I would be featuring and reviewing various titles from fiction to non-fiction, kids to adult. Primarily, I aim to release one Book Review every two weeks so as to always retain quality pf my reviews and so I will have enough time to read the books; but of course this would vary.

I will be reviewing books using different approaches, so watch for that. If upon reading my blog posts or reviews you find that our personality and/or taste blends well, I invite you to join the Book Club I started on Facebook some few weeks ago.

Likewise, I am always open for comments, reactions and book suggestions. Please don't hesitate to send me anything by commenting on this blog or privately sending me a message here. Should you wish for me to read your work, for a review or for workshop, I am more than interested.

Together let's discover the wonderful world of words. Tonight, we pack.

Again, looking forward to your book suggestions. To be updated with more upcoming projects and even contests here on my blog, make sure you join my Facebook page here.

I was with Abigail at Max's Restaurant's first ever Blogger's Night last August 18, 2010--yes, right after we arrived from Sagada (blog about Sagada coming up next, wwwait for it!). When I got the invite I knew I really wanted to go because it's Max's. I love Max's! Well, I love chicken and since Max's does chicken real good, it is but natural that my love for the house that chicken built follow through.

Abigail, the blogger who blogs lazily.

I posted a video of Max's Restaurant's energetic dance on my Facebook Page here and I invite you all to see it. You could really feel that the dancers were enjoying themselves. PS. the dancers were none other than resident employees of Max's.

We were given one special last hurrah with a Chicken-all-you-can treat. It made me so happy because I never got the chance to experience for myself their anniversary promo... even if I blogged about it on a blog elsewhere.

I had four servings of chicken, thigh part, and a cup of rice! I was crazy full but more than being filling, it was also FULfilling. :)

Other than inviting selected Bloggers to their invitational dinner, Max's also used the opportunity to unveil the newest staple food to hit the menus of Max's Restaurant nationwide. Check out the stock photos below.

My taste buds were having a party with all the flavors it got to enjoy at last Monday's dinner! True enough, Max's Restaurant is a pool of delicious flavors all melting into one--in my tummeee. Kidding aside, the two heirloom recipes will surely make anyone else's day as the quality AND quantity of each order of Pork Binagoongan and Chicken Caldereta makes perfect combination when partnered with Max's trademark fried chicken.

My personal favorite is the binagoongan dish. Talking about it right now makes me salivate. The sweet and salty shrimp paste that makes the dish was remarkable especially because each serving is topped with thinly sliced green mangoes! Very pinoy!

On the other hand, the caldereta should be a treat for those who like flavorful food. It is a chicken variation so you know you'd never go wrong at Max's with this one as well.

The great thing about these two new dishes doesn't end with them being delectable. After a widely successful Chicken-all-you-can Anniversary promo, Max's Restaurant is giving it's dine-in customers a treat. From August 16 to October 15, every order of either of the dishes comes with a serving of rice and Pepsi drink FOR FREE! So come on guys, head out to the nearest Max's Restaurant and try the new offerings from Max's Restaurant.

Don't forget to also have Sizzling Tofu and Ube Decadence! My staple orders at Max's! Sa uulitin!

Trivia: did you know that four of the waiters from the Chicken-all-you-can poster are actual waiters of Max's Restaurant!?!? I will not reveal which branches they serve though... kanya-kanyang scouting para mas exciting. :p
